Dear Readers,

Dagnabbit! Last month I totally aggravated myself trying to figure out what should be on this page and whether it should instead go to the Stuff or About Me pages. Well, after the fact, I was very dissatisfied on what I had done.

Would you, as a reader, enjoy having insight into an author's mind? Nay, not any author's mind, for goodness sakes. I'm not a mind reader.

You know, the word nay is so much more satisfying to write than plain old no—especially when done with emphasis.

“Nay!”

Doesn't that sound more commanding?

So, each month I thought I'd show you how I build a story. Before ever writing the first word, I know my characters so well they've become live people in my mind. Ha! Magnus the Ruthless just proved it by growling in my ear, “You wish!” He's the main character in Ruthless, of course. Don't worry. He knows his place. I have power. But he's a particularly stubborn man, forever objecting to his role. If he annoys me too much or refuses to do my bidding between the pages, I'll slip Muriele a dagger and let her finish him off.

Next update, I'll begin a “Show and Tell.” Mothers know what that's like when a child goes to class with mom's skimpy nightgown mashing the sandwich in his lunchbox. He holds it up, proud as a little peacock, and proceeds to tell his classmates that's how Mommy got Daddy to give him his new baby sister.

My version of Show and Tell will tell you how I build a tale from the first thought until I've firmly formed the plot in my mind and begin to write. For the show part, I'll include some pictures as I go along. Not of my lingerie, either. *snort* It's more granny style than sexy.

Magnus just shuddered so hard it rocked my head. Ungrateful lout!

Until the next time, take good care and be safe,
